Speedy Summary Review
With an easy parking area and laid back ( for New England) trail this 3.5 mile loop of the Nayantaquit Trail has one little viewpoint and a mixture of lush shady forest and rocky outcrops and boulders. There is a small swampy section in one part and this secluded patch of forest has a large amount of bird life. Bring your bug spray and this little amble round a secluded part of the Nehantic State Forest is well worth the trip. Keep your wits about you at the many path forks to stay on the main blue blazed path. I also currently hold the Fastest Known Time on this trail.
Nearest Town – Lyme CT
Distance on Trail 3.5 miles – Elevation 500ft
Moderate Hike – Bring Bug Spray and avoid after heavy rainfall as it can be very swampy in sections.
Full Guide
The Nayantaquit Trail is tucked down in the South Eastern Corner of Connecticut near the town of Lyme and is one of the CFPA Blue Blaze Trails. It is named after the local Nayantaquit Tribe that used to inhabit the area and the trail meanders through the Nehantic State Forest.
You can see Long Island Sound from Nickerson Hill which is the main viewpoint on this trail and the viewpoint seems to have a few Glacial Erratics on them as does the rest of the trail.
