In this review the item was free and I get a commission for sales from the link in the blog but you will pay the same price as you would otherwise. Thankyou for helping to support the site.
No 42 year old man should be putting pictures on the internet of him in underwear. Normally I’d take photos and a video of me using a product I’m reviewing but luckily for everyone I have taken a sensible route and decided against this. Thank me later.
For runners the two most terrifying things on a long run are the words ‘Bear’ and ‘Chafing’. The issue is that the larger you are as a runner, or the bigger your legs are the more likely you are to encounter the second issue, whereas the first problem risk remains constant.
You can use lubricants to help ease the rubbing, I often use talcum powder, but its better to try and get your clothing right from the start. I once spent 50 miles on a run with my ‘man bits’ inside a glove to stop them rubbing. This blog aims to avoid you ever having this claim.
I took a look at two of the high end players in this market. BN3TH and Runderwear. They have some similarities and differences and my conclusion may surprise you.
Fibre is good for you
BN3TH makes their underwear out of a modal fabric, which is like a very posh natural breathable cotton whereas Runderwear uses a synthetic approach with a more stretchy and breathable fabric. Both are breathable and keep the sweat away from your skin and both wash well on low temperatures as long as you don’t tumble dry , bleach or iron.
Enhance your ‘ManPrint’
The Runderwear is a tighter fit, almost more like the compression gear that X Bionic make, and are comfortable whereas the BN3TH have a slightly more natural fit. Both are great , but the compression of the Runderwear may well reduce your ‘manprint’ externally whereas the BN3TH have a ‘MyPakage’ technology pouch to help increase your ‘manprint’.
The cost of Chafe ‘insurance ‘
There isn’t much in it on cost here. BN3TH come in at $3 cheaper than the Runderwear.
Waistband Roll
This is it. This is the clear decider for me. BN3TH trounces the opposition here on the fit of the waistband. Its elastic and thick and tall so it doesn’t roll down. The waistband on the Runderwear drives me absolutely mad. It rolls down all the time creating this thick tube of fabric that sticks out an annoys me. I think if you are a super skinny fast runner you wont notice this, in fact friends of mine rave about Runderwear, but friends with a waistline of 34 inches or bigger agree with me, the waistband rolls down on the Runderwear and drives you mad. You spend the whole day readjusting yourself.
It also sounds stupid, and I am known for being stupid, but the offset front logo on the Runderwear means I can never remember which way round their underwear goes on. There is no label at the centre at the back. Its another small thing that annoys me that shouldn’t
I did a ‘brief’ 2 min video here to summarise
Verdict
BN3TH wins on almost all counts. They are lower cost, better fitting, and more natural feeling fabric that enhances not reduces your ‘man bulge’. The Runderwear will be fine if you are an ultra slim runner, but I’m now wearing the BN3TH underwear regularly for sport whereas the Runderwear now languish in the ‘No’ pile of clothing I have. Both sell online direct from their own website.
My only issue is that I had to email the the guys at BN3TH to find out how to pronounce it. Its pronounced ‘Beneath’ ! Look for the advert below offering you $10 off your first purchase too.
