Super Speedy Summary Review

A superb pair of sunglasses with great polarised lenses that you can replace for $12 if you scratch them. Combine with a lifetime guarantee, donation to charity and them being made from recycled plastic and you are bound to find a pair to suit your face from their website with software to help you virtually try them on before you buy.

You can buy direct from their shop here

In Depth Review

I have a super hero power.

I’d love it to be that I can breathe underwater or fly. Sadly my superhero power is that all glasses and sunglasses suit me. All of them. The more outlandish the MORE they suit me.

For the rest of you ‘mortals’ you know the nightmare of trying to find the perfect pair that actually suits you. I recently discovered Sunski and my girlfriend Shona told me that no sunglasses suit her. None.

I have strong views ( pun) on sunglasses. Almost the entire market is controlled by a ‘Shades Mafia’ called Luxottica who own almost every ‘top’ brand you can think of and deliberately keep prices high and usually dumb down and trash the quality of the brands they ‘acquire’.

$150 dollar sunglasses are not 3 times better than $50 dollar sunglasses. The difference is usually whether Luxottica are involved or not.

What we’ve seen more recently is the rise of the small boutique sunglasses companies who are bucking the high price trend and giving us high quality sunglasses without the Luxottica price tag. What this means is we get sunglasses that we aren’t scared to take out to the beach or trails without fear of them getting ruined because they are so expensive.

Salsa Bowls and Sunglasses

The absolute opposite of the Luxotica empire is two guys from San Francisco who set out to make the perfect Salsa Bowl and ended up making sunglasses.

The deeper I dive into the Sunski brand the more you I feel like they are ‘my people’. The company donate 1% of their profits to environmental charities and have a great range of sunglasses for women and men.

But here is the thing…… Almost everything they do goes that little bit different.

Virtual Sunglasses

I had far too much fun on their website trying on virtual sunglasses on my face. They have some nifty software that caused me far too much entertainment and allows you to see what various widths and styles look like on your face.

I tried out the fun Originals Clear Blue with blue arms and lenses and clear frames.

I also tried out the new Treeline Sunglasses. These are designed for very strong sunlight and glare so are perfect for days when there is snow out and blue skies with bright light. They have foldable side guards that help shield the light coming in from the sides.

Scratch That

I dug around on their site and found that they will also provide you with a new set of lenses you can fit yourself for $12. This is great !

The sunglasses are also made from post industrial recycled plastic minimising environmental impact.

Polarised Opinions

I’m not a fan of dark sunglasses for the sake of it for running or hiking. I wear sunglasses on trails because polarising lenses give me a sharper image and they help keep bugs and branches out of my eye. You will also find that polarising lenses help you see more accurately when driving in the rain.

Gripes

These sunglasses are super lightweight but in certain conditions when I’m running hard they can steam up. This is because you can’t adjust the nose area to move the lenses away from your face. This means I’ll grab these for the beach or trail hiking or out to the bar, but probably not use them when I know I’m running hard.

Verdict

Ray Ban quality for a third of the price. A great pair of sunglasses with a huge range and not expensive enough that its like a death in the family if you trash or lose a pair. The lifetime warranty and replaceable lenses for $12 is definitely the deal clincher.
