I reviewed the original Jaybird Vista buds last year and I’ve been using them every day since then. They’ve lasted through some serious wear and tear, bad weather and they still work fine. The latest version from Jaybird bring some seriously useful extra features and overall in testing I got the impression that Jaybird spared no expense to create the most durable and high performance earbuds on the market.

Sound Quality

Before I list off all the other features of the Vista 2s we shouldn’t lose sight of what these are supposed to actually do. The sound quality on these is very impressive. They have 6MM milled drivers and you can use their excellent app to alter EQs to your own tastes. I also like that the app has various presets for certain types of music and suggests EQs from people for use with activities like running or in the gym.

Earth Proof

The Vista 2s are MIL-STD810G and IP68 rated. This means they match a military rating for rugged build quality and are dustproof, shock resistant, drop proof . An IP68 rating means that the item has been tested to a depth of 1m of water for 30 mins and still works. This is way more than simply being caught out in the rain and means they will survive pretty much anything you can do to them by accident.

24hrs of Battery

The Vista 2 charging case holds up to 24 hrs of recharging power for the earbuds which themselves also hold up to 8 hours of music play time. There is also a 5 min quick charge that can quickly smash an hour of play time in the earbuds which is roughly the time it takes to find your keys and put your shoes on if you are going out for a run and have forgotten to charge them.

Weatherproof Charging Case

There is no fiddling round with a USB cable to try and charge the Vistas. They fit neatly into a small plastic rugged case that comes with them with a small lanyard. They attach to the case for charging via small magnets which means they sort of ‘jump’ into the slots they need to be in and start charging straight away. Putting them in or out of the case is also the easiest way to turn them on and off. The case itself also incorporates its own rechargeable battery so it charges the case up and the earbuds when you have it connected to the USB charger cable that comes with it.

The recharging case is also IP54 weatherproof as well and there is a wireless charging dock included as well.

Get on the Mic

The Jaybird Vista 2s have 4 mics with a fabric that helps reduce ‘wind rustle’ and also have voice assist as a function. The earbuds also have an ‘in ear’ sensor which means they save power when not in use when you take them out of your ears. The mics allow very clear voice calls too.

Comfort and Fit

The Vista 2s earbuds only weigh 6 grams (a fifth of an ounce) so they are very comfortable when worn. There are three gel sleeve options in different sizes so you can experiment with which size suits your ear the best. They come with the medium size 2 on already and I found they were actually best for me. Even with vigorous sport and trail running I couldn’t shake them out of my ears by accident.

Colors

At the moment the new Jaybird 2s will be available in 3 colors, a nimbus grey, black and midnight blue.

Jaybird app

I downloaded the Jaybird App which is available for I phone or Android. The app walks you through a few quick options and also allows you to set a custom EQ tailored to your personal hearing. It also has a ‘find my earbuds’ function so you can use your phone to locate them when you cant remember where you put them.
