Speedy Summary
This is the perfect little 1.5 mile trail near Middletown is perfect for the family. Its part of the CFPA Blue Blaze Series of Trails. With the two small loops you are never far from the car and car park and you get the variation of the rocky trails through the woods and the lovely section by the sandy shore of the lake with a BBQ pit and Picnic table. The southern loop is also fun but more of a ‘swamp fest’ so you will definitely need your bug spray.
The trails are located within the Hubbard Brook Preserve which was donated to the CFPA in 2007. When Shona and I ran it we also set a Fastest Known Time on this trail.
A figure of 8 of Fun
This trail is made up of two loops with the car park in the middle. The Northern loop is slightly longer and in my opinion the nicer loop and takes in park of the local lake shoreline with a picnic table and stone BBQ pit on a small sandy mini beach in the woods.
The Southern loop is a little bit more overgrown and swampy and takes in some trails that look down on to the disused railway track that the Northern Loop uses.
Disused Railway Tracks
The trail meanders along, on and off a disused railway track as you go along the section that follows the Connecticut River.
Verdict
This is the perfect little trail to come and visit for the family. With the two smaller loops you are never far from the car and car park and you get the variation of the rocky trails through the woods and the lovely section by the sandy shore of the lake with a BBQ pit and Picnic table.
