In Depth Review

I look terrible in almost all athletic gear. I’m 43, too short and my belly expands the moment a camera comes out. I review a lot of outdoor gear in a year and I’ve come to recognize one thing from the quality brands I’ve reviewed and it’s this…

The difference between a $20 and $100 garment is usually how well it fits me.

The 3 or 4 High End brands I review regularly on this site that include Vollebak, Cortazu or Outerknown all have something in common with these Leorever garments.

They all sell direct to the client cutting out the shops and so giving us double the quality for half the money. They also have something else in common and that is the ability to make clothing in smaller batches with more attention to tailoring, fit and detailing that make wearing the clothes great because I look great in them.

My point is that when you buy superb performance sports clothing that’s well tailored you end up wearing it far more because you wear it for sport and casual.

Fabric

All of the Palisades Train collection ( which includes the 2 types of jacket, 2 types of short and pant) are made of the same fabric. Its a blend of microfibre and spandex which gives the garments huge amounts of 4 way stretch but also a high amount of breathability when doing sports.

Palisade Train Jacket with Hood

The Palisade Jacket with Hood is actually more of a thin sporty hoodie. Its made of the lightweight breathable stretchy fabric and has 2 very discreet zip pockets elegantly hidden in the sides with an internal mesh pocket. The hem and cuffs have a long wide band to them for comfort and the jacket is extremely comfortable to wear because of the flexibility. The stitching and seams are meticulous and the jacket has been tailored to fit well without making men look too boxy.

Palisade Newport Jacket

The Palisade Newport Jacket is very similar to the hooded jacket, but with a 2 inch collar instead of the hood. It has the same discreet 2 zip pockets and identical tailoring and fit. As both jackets are basically the same and the same price its simply a matter of deciding whether you want a hood or not.

Palisade Train Quad Shorts

The Palisade Train shorts come in two variants. The Quad shorts are the shorter ones and suit me better. They are perfect for runners and people doing active aerobic sport. The shorts have two discreet zip pockets just like the jackets and a wide comfortable waist band. These shorts do not have a built in mesh underwear inside which I actually prefer because it allows me to pick what underwear I want to wear.

Palisade Train Thigh Shorts

The Palisade Train Thigh Shorts are a little bit longer than the Quad shorts and would suit taller men, basketball, boxers etc. Again they have 2 discreet zip pockets and a wide comfortable waist band and again they don’t have built in mesh underwear like any sports shorts.

Palisade Train Pants

The Palisade Train Pants are a tailored fit pant with a reasonably narrow ankle/calf area that make them perfect for pre or post exercise as well as being fitted enough that I can easily wear them out for a trail run.

Washing and Care

Although not necessary I would recommend washing these items on a low temperature and avoiding tumble drying. Hung up they dry in a matter of hours and don’t need any pressing.

Gripes

The only real observation I would make would be that the pockets are huge and deep, which means keys or a phone swing around a bit too much when out running in them. It would be useful if one of the pockets was smaller or the pants and shorts had a small zip pocket on the seat at the rear.

Closest Competitor

The quality and feel of the fabric reminds me of gear from Vollebak, in particular their ceramic range but their prices are higher and availability even more scarce.

Verdict

Sporty and Stylish, like the clothing version of an Aston Martin car these garments punch well above their price range for quality, tailoring and function. They are super breathable when doing sport, comfortable and wear well. The added value comes from the wearability after the workout with your jeans.

Its about time a fashion designer finally made sport clothing that looks good on all men, and if it can make a 43 year old Englishman look ok everyone else will look great.

About Leorever

Founder Jonathan Oe decided to go out on his own, and started a company representing U.S. brands in Japan. He soon met the CEO of Gilda Marx Industries, one of the world’s leaders in the leotard business. I went to work for Gilda Marx and built a division for the company in Japan. He loved this business, of reshaping a woman’s self image through spandex, and he was very good at it, shattering company sales records and opening direct business into major Japanese retailers. But within a few years, aerobics would fade away, and so did the business for Gilda Marx in the United States. So he moved back to California, and started again…

For men, I sensed a void – there was no sense of direction or guidance – we were all in new territory from both a fashion sense and a social sense. We were free to wear whatever we wanted to wear, when ever we wanted to. And that just left us with a sense of chaos and confusion. Baggy basketball shorts and oversized t-shirts, and a baseball cap became what fashion was supposed to be. Men of all ages, sizes and shapes dressed like 5 year olds. And let’s face it – the old uncomfortable structured wool suits were just impractical. “Business Casual” – what in the world was that? Levi’s and a plaid shirt?

I sensed another situation where I felt I could create a physical product and philosophy to respond to a spiritual and social vacuum.

I wanted to create an Oasis for Men who were daring enough to step beyond the comfort zone of the swoosh and the ways other men and women saw the world. I wanted men to value themselves a little more, and have the imagination and drive to go after the life they desired. I wanted to create an aspirational space, where they won’t be judged – a space to dream – and to pursue those dreams. And to understand the depth in that pursuit. Our wealth is in the things we learn, and the skills we acquire on that journey.

This was the World of LEORÊVER – the Dreaming Lion.
