Full Review

For some reason I’ve seen mushrooms in the news a lot lately. As a Biologist I’m already aware of the amazing things mushrooms do. These ‘not quite animals and not quite plants’ do everything from form large communication networks to create a ‘tree internet’ to someone recently GROWING a canoe.

I’ve also see growing ( pun ha!) research in using low microdosing of psilocybin mushrooms to treat PTSD and depression with very promising results.

Trubrain operate at the front of using natural products in an innovative way so following on from my review of their Boost drink in the past I’m not surprised to find out they have developed a mushroom based drink to help give your brain a little bit of encouragement.

Trubrain Mushroom Drink Review

Trubrains Mushroom Drink is like the nicer older brother of a strong cup of coffee. Wiser and more mellow you get a gentle all day brain hug with none of the rush and crash of caffeine.

Is the Trubrain Mushroom Drink Legal ?

This was my first thought and the good news is that the extract they use is from a type of mushroom called Lions Mane which is legal and sold already in many products.

Whats Lion Mane ?

Lions Mane is a type of fungus that can be eaten cooked or raw. I’ve only tried it in the Trubrain Mushroom drink but apparently on its own it tastes like seafood or lobster.

Benefits of Lions Mane

A quick search of reputable websites listed a few research based benefits for Lions Mane. This include research to link it to potentially helping Dementia, mild anxiety and depression, recovery from nervous system damage, protection against ulcers and heart attacks and possible links to helping diabetes and cancer.

Lions Mane is part of a family of herbal treatments known as Adaptogens.

What’s the drink taste like ?

Luckily it doesn’t taste like seafood. It has a chalky taste that has a bitter tang with a bit of sweetness. Its certainly better than drinking a liquid lobster tea.

Did it give my brain a big cuddle ?

This is entirely subjective. What I can tell you is I didn’t go on some mad magic mushroom trip. In fact I didn’t really feel much in the way of a instant and noticeable effect. On reflection at the end of the day though it struck me that despite juggling a young baby at home and a busy life as a school teacher I had had a very very ‘good’ day. Perhaps a subtle support for my brain and my focus/energy was happening without me noticing it.

Value for money

Given the cost of one drink is less than your daily starbucks Id say this one is a no brainer if you are looking for something to nudge your brain and help you focus. What you don’t get is that ram raid caffeine high and crash. This drink is a marathon runner not a sprinter.

Verdict

I don’t review many health supplements because the industry is a mess. The rare few products I do tend to write about are science research backed and aimed at biohacking my brain or physical stamina a little bit. For someone looking for a boost for their brain that’s legal and doesn’t involve a barista I think The Trubrain Mushroom Drink is well worth a shot.
