In this review the item was free and I get a commission for sales from the link in the blog but you will pay the same price as you would otherwise.  Thankyou for helping to support the site.

The Foehn Nelson Pant gives you a ‘Super Jeans’ hybrid with rugged and hardwearing cordura areas to stop abrasion and a 4 way stretch material and crotch gusset to give you flexibility enough to use these pants rock climbing. With useful extra zipped pockets on the thigh and an environmentally sound company I challenge you to find another pair of pants this good for so many activities in this price range.

In Depth Review

I spend a lot of time out on trails and until this Summer was convinced poison ivy was a myth. This Summer while clearing some overgrown woodland areas I got scratched, cut and stabbed to bits and to my horror my entire legs also then broke out in poison ivy rashes.

I test a lot of gear year round and after my brush with leg destruction found myself reaching for the Foehn Pants to use them to protect my legs while in rugged woodland whilst giving me the flexibility to use a chainsaw, shift logs and bend over and carry debris. In testing these pants I basically tried to destroy them and ended up using them for most of the Summer.

Fabric

The Nelson Pants are made mainly of cotton but with the addition of lycra (for stretch) and cordura ( to resist scuffs and tears). What you get as a result is a kind of ‘super denim’ that gives you a pant that has enough stretch to be used for rock climbing or being super active but with the hard wearing properties that allow a rough hike or scramble through thorns and rough terrain.

Fit

I found the pants came out true to size. They have a ‘goldilocks’ fit which isn’t too tight/tailored or too baggy.

Pockets

Its a quirk of mine that I often rank pants and shorts on the number of pockets they have. In addition to the usual side pockets you get with all pairs of jeans you also get a lower thigh pocket that means you can keep items ( and access them) even if you are wearing a climbing harness.

Gripes

I would say that the heavy and tough weight of the fabric means I would probably avoid wearing these in the height of the summer. I think these pants are best suited to Spring, Fall and Winter use.

About Foehn

“We started Foehn because we were always sacrificing either performance or aesthetics with the options available on the market,” says Ingrid. “We decided that we could fill that void ourselves with the skills that we both have – and thus, share our creations with the world. However, the products we make are just one piece of a larger statement that we are seeking to make.”

Foehn exists to prove that technical apparel can be different, with the mission of revolutionizing and challenging the status quo of what is seen as technical clothing. Motivated by a need for a faute de mieux, Foehn creates garments that combine function with a modern aesthetic, form with comfort in timeless styles that withstands use. Foehn’s core is in slow design, an anti-mediocrity remodemy to today’s disposable mentality.

Foehn is independently owned and directed by co-founders Ingrid Sirois and Anthony Boronowski. The two aligned with a shared vision of blending performance, beauty and everyday use – bridging this gap to create Foehn. Together they brought their expertise, Ingrid on the voice of Foehn, Anthony on the product design side to create a different kind of “outdoor” brand.

  1. Interested in Foehn but sadly their shipping cost to the UK is currently too high.

Surprised to see a review of a clothing item without any fit pics!
