In Depth Review

It started with a picture on Facebook. A well respected trail runner posted a picture of them relaxing on top of a trail lookout and it prompted the question ‘WHAT SOCKS ARE THOSE?!’ our friend messaged back telling us they were Balega socks so we ordered two pairs to try out.

Mohair

The trails in Connecticut are very very rocky with some steep climbs and descents. It seems apt that these socks are so well suited for the conditions and are made from mohair. Mohair comes from goats and is considered a luxury fibre for its warmth and cool moisture wicking properties as well as how soft yet hard wearing it is.

Synthetic Upper

The thin synthetic upper fabric is designed to allow moisture to evaporate away as quickly as possible to help keep your feet dry, and the thin area also allows your foot to stay cool in the summer. The fabric has silver woven in to it to help with anti-microbial properties and reduce ‘that sock smell’

Fit

Balega Socks are tailored to fit your foot shape better and rely less on the stretch of the fabric to fit your feet. This means you get an even thickness of material at all points on your foot. There are elastic bands in key areas around the arch of your foot to help with the fit and give a small amount of support too.

Seams and Stitching

The toe area is reinforced with a seamless knit so there aren’t any areas that rub.

Options

The socks come in three height options, No-Show, Quarter Length or Crew

Closest Competitor

There are no socks I can think of that use Mohair and Synthetic Blend, the closest I can think of is the wool blend Darn Tough Socks that are similar in comfort, build and price.
