In Depth Guide

The trail spends much of the time going round the Saugatuck Reservoir having started where it meets the Aspetuck Trail. Despite being close to the reservoir for most of the the time you rarely actually get a chance to see the view of the lake. Instead you get a wonderfully well manicured and looked after woodland, with peaceful scenes and large impressive rocky outcrops.

Rocky Outcrops and Shady Ferny Forest

The entire trail stays in keeping with its nearby twin the Aspetuck Trail. The woodlands are superbly maintained and the trail is easy going under the foot. You will wind past huge rocky outcrops, cross streams and see the light cut through into the open woodland. Its superbly shady for summer walks and the breeze from the reservoir helped keep us cool on a hot day.

The Best View of the Reservoir

Keep your eye out for a sign marked universal access trail and blazed red and blue. This trail leads down to a car park and the best view of the reservoir for the whole trail. We sat and had lunch there.
