The Risley Pond Loop Trail is a 2.4 mile CFPA Blue Blazed trail near Bolton in CT. Its a moderately tough hike with a steep climb in one place and rocky, root terrain underfoot. This trail has lots of wildlife and a very wilderness feel but can be very muddy and wet in the winter.
In Depth Guide
Risley Park is owned by the Manchester Land Conservation Trust, Inc. It was donated in 1983 by Gladys R. Hall and Dorothy R. Miller in memory of their father, John S. Risley. The trail spends about a third of it round the pond with the rest climbing up a slope through woodland. You may also be interested in my ‘Best Trails of CT’ guide here.
The terrain is quite tough in places, with rocky trail and a very steep section in one place. The trail parts closest to the pond have the most roots and wet patches to pick through.
There is a large variety of wildlife at this trail and its very peaceful ( with very little nearby road noise). This trail makes a great choice for families as its relatively easy and you have the option to go fishing there too.
