Trail Guide
The Walcott Trail goes round the shoreline of Burr Pond and has the John Muir Trail running of it linking eventually to Testone Boulder Loop Trail a few miles away.
Walcott Trail History
Burr Pond was created in 1851 when several streams were dammed to help power mills and a tannery. These days the lake is used for hiking, swimming and picnic areas.
The trail runs along the shoreline weaving in and out of large trees and small rocky outcrops. There are a few minor streams to hop across and in the winter without foliage you can see the Pond easily from most of the trail. There is also huge amounts of parking but in the Summer it can get very busy.
