The Stoney Creek Trails are a CFPA Blue blazed trail near Branford in CT. Although the main blue blazed trail is very short there are a number of other colored trails that meander round some lovely woods with impressive rock formations and signs of quarry dynamiting in the past.
Full Guide
This lesser known trail system has trails that are very easy underfoot, but with some dramatic scenery in the form of rocky views, stream crossings and untouched woodlands. The trail system also joins up with the nearby stunning Westwoods trail system as well. As well as the blue blazed trail the red and green trails are also fantastic.
Quarry and Dynamited Rocks
As you wander round the the woods you’ll notice that the landscape seems more in ‘small blocks’ than solid cliffs compared to other trails in CT. If you look closer many of the rocks have signs of drilled holes from when they were blasted apart by dynamite in the past.
The Old Leatherman of Connecticut
This trail system also goes very close to the loop that I did to retrace the steps of the Old Leatherman of Connecticut including a cave he had in Westwoods.
