The Outdoor Vitals Dominion Tent offers no compromises on quality, weight and value for a backpacker or multi day trail runner looking to save weight without compromizing too much comfort. The Dominion tent is quick and easy to pitch, well made and configurable in two different weight set ups allowing it to be as light as 2lbs in the pack. With taped seams, YKK zips and ripstop fabric this feels like a tent worth twice the price.

In Depth Review
I am a big fan of a lot of Outdoor Vitals kit. For lightweight adventures on trail they have created a superb Down Quilt, do a hammock that’s under 13oz and a tarp I’ve used on a number of adventures.
Fabric
The waterproof outer layer is a very ligthweight 15 denier fabric with two vents included to allow heat and airflow if you want it. The internal mesh tent has a ‘bathtub’ waterproof floor that goes up about 6 inches and two mesh pockets for storing gear and a small tab for hanging a light inside. The seams are also waterproof taped to keep the rain out.
Features
The tent comes with plenty of guide lines if you need them and comes with ultra lightweight tent pegs as well.
The ‘single pole’ that the tent needs folds up small but extends to create a frame for the tent shape, but because the sections are all linked together you don’t have to spend time scratching our head int he dark trying to figure out which section goes with which bit.
Set up
Setting up is easy. Select a level area without any overhead dangers and simply pull all the pole sections into shape.
Once you have the frame set up you can hang the mesh inner tent from it
The four lower corners of the frame simply link through the reinforced holes in the base of the mesh house under tension. The top cross ends slide into special little black pockets to hold them taught outwards. This creates a tent with a surprising amount of headroom for its size, making getting changed inside much much easier.
Once the mesh tent and frame are secure you simply drop the waterproof outer layer over the top and secure down in the 4 corners by also slotting the frame ends through the eyelet holes. You can then secure extra areas with the tent pegs and guide ropes as approriate.
The tent comes with its own compression sack and individual pouches to keep each item tidy.
Packed up size and weight
Packed up the entire stuff sack with everything in it weighs 3lbs and takes up about the same amount of space as two compression packed sleeping bags.
Stripped Down Version – Ultralight 2lbs
You have the option to also use this tent in a stripped down version without the internal mesh section. The tent still comes with a footprint tarp for the base and comes in at under 2lbs all in weight. This configuration also creates more space, which means at a push two small people could now share the tent too.
Verdict
The Outdoor Vitals Dominion Tent offers no compromises on quality, weight and value for a backpacker or multi day trail runner looking to save weight without compromizing too much comfort. The Dominion tent is quick and easy to pitch, well made and configurable in two different weight set ups allowing it to be as light as 2lbs in the pack.
