History of Gay City Area
The state park has swimming opportunities as well as walking, and plenty of parking. The name “Gay City” derives from a now-extinct mill town that once occupied the site. Today only some tumbling stone foundations, several grass-filled cellar holes and a few silent tombstones suggest its former existence.
The Blue Blazed Gay City Trail
The trail itself is easy to walk on with very few walks. Early on there is a peacful pond you walk past on your left. Look closely in the summer and you’ll see turtles sunning themselves on the logs. There are a few stream crossings and at the top northern most trail head just past a road crossing you will find a feature called ‘Two Rocks’ which is …..two big rocks next to each other.
