The Injinji Performance Liner and main sock means you get this combo ‘straight out of the packet’ with two types of socks made for each other so the ankle and fit is perfect.. This combination means maximum cushioning for your feet with great wicking to keep feet dry and the double layer reduces friction which means you are less likely to get blisters. The individual toes on the ‘undersock’ also prevent the skin on your toes from rubbing together and the ‘outer/main’ sock is tailored to be slightly larger to fit perfectly over the liner sock. With the option to wear just the liner in the height of the Summer, both in Fall or Spring or their Merino wool option in the depths of winter you have a modular set up to help reduce blisters when you are out hiking or trail running for long periods at a time.

When you are only on your feet for an hour or so the type of sock you wear doesn’t matter much but if you are spending all day on your feet on trails or in challenging conditions with excess wet its important to get your choice of sock correct. The Injinji liner and socks give you a modular option to protect your feet in various ways according to the conditions.

I have also written a separate Footcare and Blister Guide for trail runners too which you might find helpful. I have also reviewed the Injinji Liner + sock combo ( where the outer sock is not a toe sock).

Injinji Performance Liner and Trail Sock

This combination is my recommendation for running or hiking in the summer months. With a the liner you get a very thin and lightweight layer to help with moisture wicking an avoid abrasion on your feet. The outer sock can be in a number of calf lengths and fits comfortably over the liner sock.

Injinji Merino Wool Performance Liner and Sock

For the colder months I suggest opting for the Merino Wool versions of both. The advantages of merino wool are that even when wet they still retain heat and keep your feet warm.

Liner + Outer or Just on Their Own

Just like the summer set up with the performance liner you can choose to wear just the liner or outer in the merino wool and only switch to wearing both layers in the coldest and wettest conditions. I also recommend you consider opting for half a size up on hiking boots or running shoes if this is your choice just to give you a little bit more space from the bulk of the two layers of merino.

Care of Injinji Socks

These socks are made of synthetic fibres so if they are washed with some care they will retain their wicking qualities. I wash all my trail gear in a cool wash and never tumble dry. I also recommend not using fabric softener as this can block the effectiveness of the wicking material.
