In Depth Review

I’ve been a fan of the Hilly brand since I was a runner in the UK. They are harder to find here in the USA but well worth the hunt. These socks are great for people that are in their feet all day and at risk from blisters because the dual layer means that moisture is wicked away quickly and there is little or no friction occuring to your feet because the two layers slide over each other slightly.

Fabric

Hilly Twin Skin Socks are made from a blend of natural and synthetic fibers that are designed to wick moisture quickly away from your feet and away through the lace area of your shoes.

Fit

These socks are a snug fit, but the dual layer means they go on at the same time so you dont have to put the under layer on first then the outer, they are somehow cleverly attached to each other so they don’t slide around too much or become bunched up in one area.

Cushioning

The Heel, Toe and Ball of the foot areas have extra padding to help cushion impact on your foot when doing a lot of activity.

Flat Seams

The inner sock layer is super smooth to prevent any chance of creating hot spots of chaffing on your toes. The seam round the toe is also flat locked so there is nothing to rub against.

Closest Contender

The Injinji Liner + Sock are a close contender but you have to put each sock on separately and they are toe socks rather than traditionally shaped.

Verdict

Hilly Twin Skin Socks are a double layer trail sock that is designed to wick moisture quickly away from your feet and provide a friction free day on the trails. These socks will suit anyone thats likely to be on their feet all day on trails, but be careful in the height of the summer when the double layer might prove too warm.

About Hilly

The Company was formed in 1992, by Dr. Ron Hill, MBE*, the former European and Commonwealth marathon champion. At the time he saw an opportunity to develop a range of technical performance running socks.

With a PhD, in Textile Chemistry, he was able to combine his technical expertise and running background to produce a core range to cater for the needs of the runner.

The range was split into two categories namely: Mono Skin and Twin Skin. The Mono Skin (single layer) range included the Marathon Fresh, Off Road and Super Racer Plus (now renamed Lite) and the Twin Skin (double layer), Moisture Management. All four socks have been improved over recent years.

Ron, accompanied by his sons, Steven and Graham and Stockport Harrier, Dean Loxam, developed the business and the range was sold to the specialist running stores by a team of external sales agents (many of whom remain with the company today).
Major developments have included the launch of a complete range of socks, in particular the Mono Skin Supreme – ‘Probably the most technical sock in the world’ and the new Twin Skin range – ‘Probably the best double-layer socks in the world’ In addition, the company now offers a comprehensive range of accessories, including: reflectives, hats, gloves, water carriers, neoprene products and lots, lots, more!
