Full Review
As a High School Biology Teacher I need to be smart but can often find myself outdoors teaching as well. One thing I look for in high quality clothing is the opportunity to wear it more than for just one thing or activity. The KUHL Resistor Chino brings a high tec fabric comfortable enough to go bouldering or hiking in and tailors it to be smart enough to wear to the office as well.
Fabric
The Fabric is a 3 season 4 way stretch material made from a composite of cotton and spandex. This gives the pants plenty of stretch and comfort and it also has a water repellent finish off it which would repel a spill or rain shower with ease.
I would strongly recommend washing these pants on cool and treat them the same way you would a waterproof jacket so that you maintain the repellent finish. I would also advice not tumble drying them ( or if you have to on low or air dry).
When I washed them I found that hung to dry or air tumble dryed they came up without the need to be ironed.
Fit and Color Choices
The Resistor Chino can be tailored with a tapered leg and still be comfortable because of the stretch of the fabric. It comes with 7 color options, I chose the black but actually the blue and grey options look good too.
Pockets
The Resistor have all the usual pockets you would expect, including one of the seat pockets having a useful secure zip. The pants also come with a a useful phone pocket that sits comfortably round the back of your thigh and has been big enough to accommodate even the largest of screens on all types of cellphone. The pant legs also have a bungee cord hem to tighten up the ankle area if you are out on a trail in boots or wearing them when cycling.
Gripes
Usually I have a bit of a moan about a few things but I’m honestly at a loss to find anything Id change on these pants. Given the features, quality and versatility the price point of these pants is superb.
Closest Contender
The closest contender to these trousers are probably the Satu Adventure pant from Outdoor Vitals but this is more expensive and its tailoring makes it slightly less versatile for the office than the Resistor Chino. In this face off I think the Resistor Chino clinches the win.
Verdict
The Kuhl Resistor Chino is a versatile 3 season pant with articulated joints and stretch water repellent fabric for comfort. It has lots of pockets including a unique phone sleeve and comes in a tailored cut. Smart enough for the office and tough enough for the trails this versatile pant will get a lot of use in any good wardrobe.
